Selene Yeager

Athlete, Innovator, Storyteller

With a diverse background as a journalist, athlete, advocate, and mentor, Selene Yeager is an industry veteran whose work has introduced countless cyclists to gravel cycling.

Well known as “The Fit Chick” for her writing in Bicycling Magazine and her significant social media presence, Yeager was an early proponent for gravel cycling. Even as her colleagues scoffed at the idea of gravel cycling being a ‘thing’, Yeager was regularly sharing stories of her participation in early gravel events.

Her writing has inspired countless riders to try gravel for themselves, while also helping to legitimize gravel as a unique cycling discipline unto itself. She’s authored or co-authored a wide range of cycling books, including “Gravel!”. In addition to her writing for Bicycling, Yeager is also a contributor to a number of Rodale Press titles, including Prevention, Men’s Health, Women’s Health, and Runner’s World.

In addition to her writing, Yeager has worked on a number of cycling related podcasts, including time as the co-host of “The Paceline” podcast, along with Patrick Brady. Today, she has her own podcast, “Hit Play Not Pause”, which is focused on helping women live strong, healthy lives.

Beyond her journalistic work, Yeager is an accomplished gravel athlete. In fact, she’s stood on the podium at events including DK/Unbound Gravel, the Michigan Coast to Coast, Mid-South, SBT Gravel and Big Sugar, among others. She’s also the most winning female rider in Iron Cross events –– one of the earliest gravel races in the country –– with five victories.

Through her writing and her riding, Yeager has long served as an advocate for women in cycling, and her work has helped countless women find their own love of gravel cycling.

In 2017, she and GCHOF inductee, Kristi Mohn, launched the DK/Unbound Gravel “200 Women. 200 Miles.” Initiative, which inspired women from across the globe to participate in the event. Today, Yeager continues her advocacy to get more women into gravel cycling through her coaching with Girls Gone Gravel, Gone Graveling events, her podcast, and her work behind the scenes at the unPAved gravel event, which her husband, Dave, promotes.

While Yeager’s background is varied, she’s been a long time, consistent voice for gravel cycling. Her advocacy has helped countless cyclists find their own love of the sport, and her work has made a lasting positive impact on the gravel cycling community.
